  • xDrive

    The intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel drive system adapts perfectly to even the most challenging road surface conditions, ensuring optimal traction at all times. xDrive and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) ensure that the BMW remains safe and stable. Controlled via the DSC sensor system, xDrive flexibly and quickly distributes drive power between the axles in order to prevent oversteer or understeer on bends, thereby ensuring outstanding directional stability. Moreover, it guarantees a rapid, safe acceleration even on slippery or steep stretches. In critical road conditions, the DSC doesn't need to intervene as much. Thus, BMW xDrive combines all the advantages of an all-wheel drive system – traction, directional stability and driving safety – with classic BMW dynamism.



The heart of every BMW 1 Series is the engine, and the current range of engines for the series offers a suitable drive system for all requirements. This is because all petrol and diesel engines in the BMW EfficientDynamics engine family – regardless of whether they have 3, 4 or 6 cylinders – impress with their spirited performance thanks to innovative BMW TwinPower Turbo technology – even in the low range of revs. At the same time, they display increased efficiency and even more driving dynamics. Sheer driving pleasure included.


The optional 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission ensures maximum levels of dynamics, efficiency and comfort. Limited engine speed transitions between the gears improve the acceleration values while limited engine speed transitions between the gears permit barely noticeable gear shifts. At the same time, the engine is maintained at the ideal level of revs for optimum power development while noise level is reduced. The eighth gear reduces the revolutions of the engine at high speeds, thus lowering fuel consumption and CO2 emissions too.

  • Sport+ Mode

    The right choice for a decidedly sports style of driving at the limits and the best possible performance is the SPORT+ Mode. This is because the minimised rev intervals between the gears enable acceleration with an especially high level of thrust. Furthermore, the DTC function (Dynamic Traction Control) comes into action, giving the drive wheels even better slip.

  • Sport Mode

    In combination with the Adaptive M suspension, the SPORT mode offers sportier suspension tuning combined with a stiffer damper setting. It thus ensures a more spontaneous response from drive system and steering as well as unlimited driving fun.

  • Comfort Mode

    COMFORT Mode is available for relaxed and easy travelling during which a smooth gear-shifting programme with a lower level of revs is activated. In combination with the Adaptive M suspension, tt ensures that any unevenness on the road remains practically unnoticed.

  • EcoPro Mode

    In ECO PRO Mode, the efficiency is increased by avoiding downshifts and the coasting function is activated, which allows the vehicle to roll along with especially low resistance by disengaging the engine. This reduces consumption considerably and significantly increases the range.

    The values of fuel consumptions, CO2 emissions and energy consumptions shown were determined according to the European Regulation (EC) 715/2007 in the version applicable at the time of type approval. The figures refer to a vehicle with basic configuration in Germany and the range shown considers optional equipment and the different size of wheels and tires available on the selected model.
