Of course. You can easily make use of the ever-growing BMW Charging public charging network, a service provided by Digital Charging Solutions GmbH, or any alternative charging stations, possibly provided by your employer. The My BMW App or the navigation system in your vehicle can show you all public charging points available nearby. The My BMW App is compatible with all BMW vehicles from model year 2014 onwards. It needs ConnectedDrive Services equipment to be fitted, and use of a smartphone. The availability and functions of the My BMW App vary by market and model.

To optimise the service life of the high-voltage battery in your BMW electric car, BMW recommends maintaining a state of charge between 10 and 80% in everyday use.

Charging an electric vehicle with alternating current (AC) may take longer, depending on the infrastructure available and the capacity of your high-voltage battery. On the other hand, direct current (DC) charging can be significantly quicker. In everyday use, you should prioritise charging at AC charging stations, Wallboxes and DC charging posts with a lower charging power of up to 100 kW. This optimises both the charging efficiency and the service life of the battery in your BMW electric vehicle.

Enjoy convenient, rapid and safe charging with a Wallbox, which makes the charging process significantly quicker compared to a domestic power socket. The BMW Wallbox has a charging power of up to 22 kW.⁸

Factoring in shorter charging processes more frequently is better for the service life of the high-voltage battery than fully charging and discharging the battery. To optimise the service life of the battery of your BMW electric vehicle, BMW recommends maintaining a state of charge of between 10% and 80% in everyday use. You can set a charging target (e.g. 80%) in the BMW operating system. If you have a longer journey planned, you can charge to >80%. In this case, we recommend that you charge the vehicle just before you set off.

In your vehicle menu, you can easily and conveniently set your charging target to 80%, and then there’s nothing else you need to worry about. A charging target of 80% should cover all of your day-to-day travel. If you need more range, you can simply set a higher charging target.

Simply enter your preferred departure time including climate control in the My BMW App or in the vehicle menu. That way, when you set off, you'll automatically enjoy your ideal interior temperature and the state of charge you entered. As cooling or heating uses electricity, we recommend cooling or heating your car while it's charging to retain its maximum range.

The Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function turns your BMW⁷ into a mobile power bank, opening up completely new possibilities. Make the most of maximum flexibility by supplying power to your electrical appliances wherever you happen to be. Whether you are camping in the countryside, at an outdoor event, on a construction site, or doing sport: the feature is an excellent addition to your power sources. Your vehicle provides practical assistance, as it is capable of reliably powering multiple devices at the same time, even in remote locations.

The Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function is available for your new BMW iX3 and future BMW models.⁷ However, you need the right optional accessories to use the Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function. It is optionally available in two versions. Firstly, as a Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) adapter that you can use to supply power to a single consumer. Secondly, as a Multifunction Charger with an associated Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) discharge adapter to simultaneously supply several consumers with power. The Multifunction Charger with its Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) discharge adapter is a comprehensive all-in-one solution with three socket connections and two USB-C ports. It combines different charging options and lets you simultaneously supply power to multiple devices using the discharge adapter. Just like using a mobile multi-socket.

Bidirectional charging turns your new BMW iX3 and other future BMW models³ into an energy storage device that is capable of taking on board power but also releasing it when required. Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) lets you use your vehicle as a temporary storage device for any excess solar power from your photovoltaic system. Any energy stored during the day is then available for your household in the evening, at night or the next morning. This lets you extend the use of your own self-generated solar power and reduce current demand from the grid.

To keep you mobile at all times, the system makes sure that your battery is adequately charged at your required departure time. Simply enter your scheduled departure time and charge level into the app or in the vehicle. Your BMW is already optimising the charging and discharging process.

Bidirectional charging turns your vehicle³ into an energy storage unit. Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) stores excess energy from your photovoltaic system in the battery of your electric vehicle. You can use all the power that you no longer need for your journey in your own household, saving charging costs as well as electricity costs throughout your household. There is no need for an additional household battery system, saving you investment costs. V2H supports the energy transition by leveraging the use of solar power. It is automatically controlled. You select your preferred charging mode and determine your battery’s state of charge. Your BMW takes care of the rest.
